Do you have oily skin like me? Please, you still need a moisturizer! Whether your skin is dry, normal, combination, or oily, it is important to give it enough moisture for it to look its best.
Oily skin is caused by the over-production of sebum from your sebaceous glands due to many factors such as improper skincare, stress, poor diet, hormonal shifts, and pollution.
Thus, the loss of moisture and more oil production.
While the thought of adding a mousturizer or cream to your already-oily skin sounds intimidating, there are moisturizers meant for oily skin as well. They will inject a good dose of moisture into your skin without clogging your pores.
As well, using harsh acids that seek to dry the skin and reduce shine might cause the oil glands to over-produce sebum hence a more oily complexion, especially if you skipped the moisturizer.
By applying the right moisturiser to your skin, the oil and moisture levels in your skin are balanced and your skin will become less oily.

Why Should You Moisturize Your Face?

Heidi Waldorf, MD, a dermatologist at Waldorf Dermatology Aesthetics in New York told Cosmo, that ‘moisturizing is important to keep the skin’s barrier intact.’
So, should you moisturize oily skin as well? Yes. Read on for more…
How To Choose A Moisturizer For Your Oily Skin
1. Choose a moisturiser that is suitable for oily skin
If your skin is oily you should be looking for a moisturizer that is created for oily skin.
Water-based formulas (these are less rich compared to their oil-based counterparts), especially those with natural humectants such as Manuka Honey are an excellent place to start.
2. Always opt for oil-free moisturizers
These do not clog your pores and provide a matte finish that will help keep your skin shine-free throughout the day.
When picking a moisturizer, look for words like oil-free, mattifying or oil-control. These products will give your skin hydration, but won’t contribute to shine or make you look greasy.
3. Pick water-based formulas
Water-based moisturizers help keep your complexion hydrated. The extra dose of hydration helps balance the oil-moisture levels for healthy skin.

4. Opt for lightweight formulas
A lighter and thinner consistency is very breathable upon application.
Heavy creams and lotions are too rich for your skin; and when a cream is too heavy, your pores cannot absorb it, resulting in the product sitting on top of your skin.
Moisturizers with lightweight hydrators like hyaluronic acid or aloe vera won’t clog your pores or break you out.

5. Use non-comedogenic moisturizers
If you have oily skin or are prone to breakouts, choose a moisturizer labeled oil-free and noncomedogenic or non-acnegenic.
Comedogenic products—usually heavy or greasy—can also clog your pores. It’s important to note that noncomedogenic products won’t necessarily treat your breakouts. They just won’t contribute to the problem.
To help you get started, check your product ingredients on Acne Mantra to inform you of whether or not the ingredients in your products are pore-clogging.
6. Try Natural and Organic Alternatives
If you have oily skin, don’t disrupt your skin’s function, rather aid it in its process.
Thus, try more natural and organic options instead of chemical and synthetic products that can dry out your skin, irritate and disrupt its natural state.

About My Skin: Oily Skin That’s Dehydrated
I have oily skin that is dehydrated. Ideally, oily dehydrated skin is characterized by itchy and irritated skin, dullness, increased breakouts, and congestion.
Dehydration occurs when the skin barrier, the protective uppermost layer of the skin known as the stratum corneum, lacks moisture.

This can be due to the changes in the weather, using the wrong skincare, lifestyle choice (excessive alcohol consumption/smoking are examples), diet, and other environmental factors.
All these factors contribute to depleting the water content in your skin, leaving it parched and dehydrated on a cellular level.
In my case, I have had poor diet choices including taking a lot of dairies However, since I cut back on dairy and sugar, my skin has been doing much better.
Also, (by the time of writing this article), I am 5 months into wearing sunscreen consistently, thus, my skin suffered sun damages and hyper-pigmentation.
And because I grew up mixing all sorts of skincare products that were very synthetic, my skin has had major breakouts ut it is healed now.
However, I tend to have visible pores around my T-zone and my skin suffered the lack of luster and plumpness for a while until I became more intentional with my skincare routine.
Texture: Thick, Smooth & Lightweight

Feel like creamy formulas are too thick for your oily skin? The Banila Co Miss Flower & Mr. Honey Cream is a lightweight alternative you’ll actually love.
It is thick, smooth, and has an ointment-like consistency. This slightly translucency cream really resembles the really silky, luxe variant of Vaseline.
Scent: Honey! Honey! Honey!
The Miss Flower & Mr. Honey Cream smells incredible. Its deep, warm honey fragrance is quite sophisticated. Thanks to the rich blends of honey used, it is an organic smell that hasn’t caused any harm to my reactive skin.
Ingredients & Their Quality: Super Honey Blend with Natural Oils
This honey cream is enriched with different kinds of honey that extremely nourishing the skin, thus, provides deep moisture to your skin.
It includes a premium honey blend that features royal jelly, honey butter, beeswax, honey & propolis.
Also, intense nourishing honey systems including the Yellow Glower Complex that forms a protective layer on the skin, Nutrition Complex that locks in moisture and invigorates skin as well as Black Plullans that helps refine the skin’s texture.

All the honey varieties in this honey cream make it such a rich moisturizer while raw honey also helps keep skin clear with its antibacterial properties.
“With its moisturizing and soothing effects, honey can hydrate the skin, leaving it soft, radiant, and glowing,” says Ildi Pekar, celebrity facialist and owner of Ildi Pekar Skin Care on Women Health’s Mag.
“The sugars in honey act as natural humectants and emollients that increase the water content and reduce dryness in the skin even after they have been washed off.”
In addition to the honey and the royal jelly, Miss Flower & Mr. Honey Cream also contains plant oils and extracts like argan oil, shea butter, and olive oil to provide moisturizing, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects.
Application

After cleansing my face, I apply the Banila Co Miss Flower & Mr Honey Cream as a moisturizer. Sometimes, after cleansing and wearing a serum, I apply this honey cream as a sleeping mask.

Upon application, this honey cream sinks into my skin super fast and leaves behind a practically weightless texture.
I’m happy that I’m able to enjoy all the rejuvenating properties without the sticky texture of honey. And also, for a Vaseline-like texture that looks super thick, it instantly melts between your fingers and glides across the skin so easily.
I like to use this cream at night because it leaves my skin feeling so soft in the mornings. Thus, my morning routine is much easier on my plump skin.
I’ve also tried using this honey cream for my AM skincare routine; then finishing with a layer of sunscreen, and my skin is loving it!
Results: More Radiant and Healthier Looking Complexion

This is a flamboyantly luxurious product that smoothens really well on the skin. While it might look pore-clogging, my skin hasn’t really had any enlarged pores due to clogging, nor have I suffered any fungal acne even with the oils in it.
And after using it for over three weeks, day and night, I can comfortably say that the honey is doing me well. My skin is visibly plump and well-nourished. It’s also glowing!
Verdict: Perfect for Dry or Dehydrated Skin
If you have dry skin (a skin type), or dehydrated skin (a condition), then prepare to slather on this lightweight moisturizer every night or day. The smooth formula is non-comedogenic, and leaves your skin so rich!

If you have particularly sensitive, reactive, or acne-prone skin, however, you will want to patch test and introduce this cream slowly into your routine, as it does contain some commonly known acne triggers like Cetearyl alcohol, and it is quite scented.
Take a close look at the ingredients and the CosDNA analysis if you’re concerned.
All in all, this is my current go-to cream. I use this honey cream to moisturize my oily skin during the day or night, and my skin is loving it!
