Disclaimer: I received this Revitalising Water Sleeping Mask for my face from Klorane. After incorporating it into my skincare routine for 21days, I share my honest review.
You’ve probably heard about the ‘beauty sleep‘ craze, right? Well, with proper rest, the skin is indeed able to repair much of the day-to-day damage as a part of the body’s natural repair cycle.
Without a doubt, we all want to achieve healthier, and more hydrated skin even in our sleep. And a sleeping mask for your face would be a perfect addition to a nightly skincare regimen.

Wearing a sleeping mask on your face will help seal in your serums, treatments, eye cream, and any other skincare essentials in your regimen. This allows for your products to effectively sink in, stay put and work their magic.
You can also find sleep masks that target concerns like skin renewal, anti-aging, and brightening.
But how different is a sleeping mask from a night cream or a face mask? Read more…

Sleeping Masks vs. Night Creams: What’s the Difference and Which One to Use
What Is A Sleeping Mask?
Also known as an overnight mask, sleeping mask or leave-on mask, this kind of mask works both as a barrier and as a sealant.
A light coating of a sleeping mask is designed to lock in your other active products and this help ingredients penetrate more deeply into your skin as you sleep. So, you can wake up to ultra-moisturized skin!
It also prevents dirt and dust from closing in on your pores.

Usually, their formulas are long-lasting and intensely hydrating, yet still comfortable enough to sleep with them on.
Sleeping masks are created to deeply hydrate your skin, much more so than a regular moisturizer.
Sleeping masks that are packed with active ingredients will slowly release throughout the night to target specific skin concerns.
What Is A Night Cream?
Night creams contain nourishing ingredients and are particularly rich in cell activating ingredients that supports the natural skin regeneration process, improves skin renewal and ensures a younger-looking appearance.
At night, when cell regeneration is running at full speed and your skin is particularly receptive to moisturising ingredients after cleansing thoroughly, apply a night cream to your face and neck to help with the process.
Which Should You Use?
Dr. Lorstcher says on Dermstore that one can use either night creams or sleeping masks—or both alternately—to effectively boost your nighttime regimen.
Wear a night cream as your night time moisturizer and seal in with a sleeping mask.
However, sleeping masks should be used two to three times a week. You can also use them in the place of your moisturizer as long as your skin can tolerate it.
How To Use A Sleeping Mask For Your Face

Sleeping masks are usually applied as the last step of your nighttime skincare routine— ideally, layered on top of a complete regimen just before bed, Dr. Craig Kraffert, a board-certified dermatologist, tells The Zoe Report.
Doing so will effectively form a barrier against environmental pollutants like dirt, and seal in skin-loving goodness so you wake up with radiant, glowing skin the next day.
Skincare Tip…
Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip says on the Skincare Blog that, “overnight masks should always be washed off in the morning since leaving them on may increase the risk of unintended breakouts.”
To do so, wash off your skin to remove your sleep mask continuing with your morning skincare routine then wearing makeup.
Should All Skin Types Use A Sleeping Mask In Their Evening Routines?
There is literally a sleeping mask for every skin type, and to solve almost every skin problem.
For the acne prone skin, go for non-comedogenic overnight masks to ensure your pores are not blocked thus worsening the effect.
If you’re fungal ance-prone, also make sure to read ingredients and check labels to make sure that your sleep mask won’t aid in further yeast growth. Use the Folliculiticus website for the same.
Also, if your skin is oily, prefer gel formulas. These have a lighter consistency and still, do not sacrifice on the nourishing benefits.
For dry skin babes, sleeping masks are the holy grail for maximum hydration. That’s why it is advisable to wear sleeping masks in the harsh winter months.

About My Skin: Oily Skin, Visible Pores, Fungal-Acne Prone
I have oily skin and my T-Zone area has large, visible pores while my forehead is particularly prone to fungal acne.
My skin also has black spots and hyperpigmentation that are significantly reducing thanks to the introduction of Vitamin C into my skincare routine.
I always used to think that because I have oily skin, my skin didn’t require any hydration. But I was wrong! All skin types, including oily skin, need proper hydration.
Its Price & Value: Worth It!

So far, so good! Considering the effects I get out of this mask, I would pay the price. Good thing, it lasts quite long since a scoop of the product goes a long way.
Owing to the fact that you should wear a sleeping mask for your face twice to thrice a week, this product will last you long.
The Packaging
This sleeping mask comes in a 1.6 oz blue container. The packaging is really cute to look at, one would buy it for the packaging as well!
The Scent: Has Fragrance
First off, the light floral scent is very sweet and relaxing! I was a bit skeptical about the scent as my skin tends to react whenever I use scented skincare products.
However, this sleeping mask has an organic floral fragrance from pure cornflower water. It literally smells like candy! And I’m glad that even after using it for 3 days a week, for 2 weeks, my skin hasn’t reacted.
Its Texture & Feel: Lightweight & Velvety

It is a gel product with a velvety texture that sinks in to the skin very well. You won’t experience any sticky feeling afterwards.
Since it is non-comedogenic, you will sleep well, not having to worry that the mask might cause you to break out overnight.
Ingredients & Their Quality: Botanical Ingredients
This mask is formulated with botanical ingredients and the key ones go a long way into transforming your skin while you sleep.
Pure cornflower water and hyaluronic acid are the highlights as well as Dextran Sulfate and organic edelweiss that work together to hydrate your skin and wake up to beautiful morning skin (check the table above for more).
Application

Since a sleeping mask is used as the last step of your PM/evening skincare routine, you want to get done with your routine then wear this mask last.
Whenever I’m using this sleeping mask, I don’t use a night time moisturizer or night cream. Why? I wear it on nights when I’m treating my skin so I can wake up to much goodness.
I usually wear my Beautycounter overnight resurfacing peel that I let sit on my face and neck for 10 minutes before wearing this mask to seal all the goodies.
If I decide to wear a night cream, I go for a gel moisturizer that isn’t too rich I came to learn that my skin doesn’t like it when I use a couple of rich products so I’m always using one per time.
Afterward, leave on overnight. I wash my face in the morning and if you use a silk pillowcase like me, you will notice that the product does not transfer to your beddings.
You can literally feel the product on your face, and much smoothness in the morning!
Skincare Tip…
Klorane advises using the sleeping mask in place of your nighttime moisturizer. After cleaning your face, apply the product and give yourself the massage ritual below:
1. PREP: With your hands flat on your neck, perform small circular movements moving up towards the ears and back towards the center of your neck.
2. VISIBLY DEPUFF: Using two fingers, perform small circular movements starting at your nose, moving down to your jaw, up to the lips, and finishing by your temples.
3. SMOOTH: With your hands flat on your cheeks, apply pressure while moving your palms from the center of the face outwards.
The Results: Smooth Morning Skin!

When I wake up each morning after using this sleeping mask, my skin is visibly plump and “put-together” (If you’re that person who wakes up looking like a zombie, it’s time to upgrade your evening routine, and include a sleeping mask)
I can literally wake up and go to the shop without washing my face un the morning. That’s how I feel confident in my skin whenever I wake up!
The hyaluronic acid is definitely keeping my skin well moisturized and smooth!
Our Verdict: Love It!
As an oily skin babe, I love lightweight and gel products! My skin thrives when I use such products!
It does not clog my pores at all. It does not feel sticky on my face. It locks in all my serums and I wake up to plump skin. So, it’s definitely a must-have for me!
